Local Collections: Sir Henry Bradwardine Jackson, Admiral of the Fleet

This local collection reflects a man who played an important role in the battles of Gallipoli and Jutland. Sir Henry Bradwardine Jackson (1855- 1929) was British Admiral of the Fleet, Chief of the War Staff and First Sea Lord during the Battles of Gallipoli and Jutland. He also pioneered the introduction of radio telegraphy in the Royal Navy. Sir Henry lived for many years at Salterns House, Salterns Lane on Hayling Island and is now buried on the island at St Mary’s Church.
