The Father
Written in 1887 and anticipating Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf by more than seventy years, The Father is an unrelentingly intense and powerful portrayal of marital conflict in which a father and mother struggle for the possession of their only child. Eugene O'Neill described August Strindberg as that greatest genius of all modern dramatists and this play remains one of the most gripping psychological dramas of modern theatre.
