The Luckiest Guy Alive

Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser

Poet; Rock Star; TV & Radio Presenter; Comedian; Cultural commentator - Dr John Cooper Clarke is returning to the Victoria Theatre, Halifax for another electrifying evening of poetry and the spoken word.

John Cooper Clarke shot to prominence in the 1970s as the original ‘people’s poet’.

His unique poetry writing and rapidfire delivery style was recorded and put to music by lengederary producer Martin Hannett and a band of Mancunian superstars, such as Buzzcocks Pete Shelley and The Durutti Columns Vinnie Reilly.

Since then his career has spanned cultures, audiences, art forms and continents.

These days he performs purely as a stand up solo poet. His unique poetry show has been running in theatres worldwide for over 12 years.

This new tour is based on John's latest poetry collection The Luckiest Guy Alive, which was released worldwide in November 2018 via Picador/Macmillan. Featuring over 30 poems, it includes many of his adoring public's favourites such as; I've Fallen In Love With My Wife, Beasley Boulevard and Get Back on Drugs you Fat F*ck.

"I say to people, have you heard of John Cooper Clarke and if they say, yes, yeah he's an absolute genius and you just go, 'oh - ok, you've saved me a lot of time" Steve Coogan

Dr John Cooper Clarke appearing at this event

Britain’s best loved and most important performance poet, John Cooper Clarke is as vital now as he was in the '70s. His biting, satirical, political and very funny verse, delivered in a unique rapid-fire performance style, resonated with the punk movement and he toured with all the seminal bands, from The Sex Pistols to The Clash, until he soon began to draw large crowds in his own right. John Cooper Clarke is as relevant and vibrant as ever, and his influence just as visible on pop culture. His influence can also be heard in the satirical and keen social observations of artists such as Plan B and the Arctic Monkeys. As well as his regular TV appearances on the likes of Have I Got News For You, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Would I Lie To You and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, John also host 6 Music shows and his own BBC Radio 4 Show 'John Cooper Clarke Live at the BBC'.
