Iolanthe sets a story of a pair of lovers struggling to remain together amidst a battle of the sexes, between the House of Lords on the one hand and a band of militant fairies on the other.

In the mix are a Lord Chancellor with a guilty secret and a Grenadier Guardsman with an individual line in political philosophy.

From the fairies’ opening chorus Tripping hither to the Lord Chancellor’s Nightmare song, by way of the famous Peers’ chorus and the ironically patriotic When Britain really ruled the waves, the audience can enjoy a succession of memorable tunes.
