Guys And Dolls

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International(Europe)

Music and Lyrics by Frank Loesser
Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows

Halifax Light Opera Society follows up its success with ‘Evita’ last year with ‘Guys and Dolls’, featuring a host of classic songs, including ‘Luck be a Lady’ and ‘Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat’.

Basedon a Damon Runyon short story, the show revolves around Nathan Detroit, the organiser of the 'oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York'.

He needs money for an illegal dice game, not to mention his 14-year engagement tonight club singer Miss Adelaide, whose patience is finally running out.

Entergambler Sky Masterson, a guy who can never turn down a bet and straight-laced Salvation Army missionary Sarah Brown.

Thewager: Sky has to romance Sarah by taking her to Havana for dinner and inreturn he’ll provide a dozen ‘sinners’ for Sarah’s mission.

Romance, however, is incidental in ‘Guys and Dolls’ to the colourful picture provided of New York and its more picturesque characters.
