A Midsummer Night's Dream
Four young lovers escape the sharp Athenian law of their elders by eloping into the forest outside the city. Unfortunately they stumble into civil war in fairyland, where King Oberon and Queen Titania fight over possession of a beautiful young Indian 'changeling' boy.
The appearance of the 'rude mechanicals', a group of Athenian workers, including the weaver Nick Bottom, compounds the confusion. Amongst these unlikely groups glides Puck, armed with a love potion capable of making anyone fall for the first person they set eyes upon. How could anything possibly go awry?
After recent successes including Welcome to Terezin, Bartholomew Fair and last year’s Orwell Season of Animal Farm and 1984, Act One tackles what is arguably one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays.
Whilst remaining true to Shakespeare's celebrated text, this playful production transcends traditional gender roles and modern day Athens sets the scene for this magical dream.
Suitable for ages 16 and over.
