When Leontes, King of Sicilia, accuses his wife of being unfaithful with his childhood friend, the King of Bohemia, he sets in motion a chain of terrible events that destroys everything he holds dear.

A beautiful, captivating fable of contrasts, The Winter's Tale spans 16 years, taking its audience from dark tragedy to bright new hope. From the power and majesty of Victorian England to the vibrancy and colour of India, we invite you to join them on this enchanting journey of rediscovery and redemption. Shakespeare's great, late play features one of the most truly magical moments in theatre, and possibly the most famous of stage directions: "Exit pursued by a bear".

Staged in the magnificent Holy Trinity Church on Guildford High Street, GSC’s production will be set around 1860, with the Sicilian royal family emulating the power and majesty of Victorian England, whilst Bohemia will reflect the colour and vibrancy of the Indian sub-continent.

Caroline Devlin returns to direct following her triumphs with King Lear, Othello and Macbeth.
