Although still only 25, Katherine has been performing on the Folk scene for over eight years and now all of her hard work is being recognised. Her star is rising rapidly. She has captured the hearts of her audiences with her delicate but beautiful voice and skilful guitar playing. She is highly sought after and after so many recent disappointments, we are delighted that Katherine has agreed to help us start our new season with some real quality live music. Katherine performs both her own original material, as well as some sublime cover versions of her favourite songs.

"Best thing I've heard all year"
Richard Thompson in MOJO

The last 8 months have been a whirlwind for Birmingham-based folk artist Katherine Priddy, who, having recently emerged onto the scene with her long-awaited debut EP 'Wolf', has been turning heads and steadily gaining attention. ‘Wolf’ has been championed by the BBC 2 Folk Show, BBC 6 Music’s Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson and BBC Wales, as well as receiving exceptional reviews. The great Richard Thompson named ‘Wolf’ as his 'Best Thing I've Heard All Year' in MOJO Magazine, whilst Folk Radio UK pronounced the release to be:
"........something extraordinary indeed...one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard.
Her tone, phrasing, pitch and sentiment...it’s flawless".

After quickly selling out of the original pressing of ‘Wolf’, Priddy bowed to popular demand and released it digitally, as well as selling out two further re-presses of the EP.

Priddy’s original works are delivered with an emotional maturity, depth and a vulnerable tenderness that also carries a darker edge. She cites Nick Drake and John Martyn amongst her many influences. Her lyrics are particularly noteworthy - a tribute to her life-long love affair with literature and poetry and the stories she weaves, will transport you to another place.

It is clear that, despite the delicate nuances of her sound, Katherine Priddy is not a fragile wallflower destined to fade away, but a young woman who means business. With 2020 bringing whispers of a much-anticipated first album and with her reputation building steadily, it promises to be an exciting year for Priddy........
“Her pure vocal tone conveys the lyrics of the songs perfectly, and creates a hypnotic ambience that invites us into her stories.”

+ Jon Wilks
Katherine will be ably supported by Jon Wilks, who you can see and hear playing together with Katherine and other guest musicians (but they were all in different places and in isolation), on this “lockdown” video that they put together.

How on Earth did they do that?

Regular Folksters will know that Jon became our favourite Brummie Folk musician when he came to support Hatful of Rain in October 2019 and will also know that he was due to play a support slot with Bob Fox in March. We booked Jon again because we liked him so much. The March 30th gig was one of the first gigs we had to postpone due to Covid-19 so it is only right and proper that Jon should be one the first performers to play our first post “lockdown” gig for us. What’s more, it is his connection with and influence on Katherine, that has persuaded her to come and play for us. Thanks, Jon.
Jon is the genuine article. He has collected old Folk songs from his native Birmingham and surrounding Black Country and he sings them with an authentic voice and accent.
