The Valiant Dance Band continues the tradition of distinctive English ceilidh bands from the Eastern counties. The line-up of Katie Howson (melodeon), Liz Giddings (fiddle), Roger Digby (anglo concertina), Rob Neal (cello) and John Howson (banjo) has created a band that plays extremely danceable tunes with a conviction that comes from years of total immersion in traditional music.
Over the years members have played in many of England's most influential ceilidh bands including Godalming's perennial favourite band Polkaworks, The Old Hat Band, Flowers & Frolics, Proper English and Katie's Quartet. Calling the dances will be Gareth Kiddier, probably best know as keyboard player in the aforementioned Polkaworks but an excellent caller in his own right.
GBH Ceilidhs have been going since 1976. The raison d'etre has always been to book the best and most exciting English folk dance bands and dance callers from all over the country. Experts and newcomers are all welcome, especially the latter as it is important that we keep the tradition alive and thriving.
This will be the last season of dances organized by Linda and Lawrence. They have a new organizer waiting in the wings but they will be watching the success of this season's dances to finally decide whether to take over so please come along to support the dances and keep them going.
