Can't Forget About You
This riotous comedy crosses the water from Belfast after two triumphant runs at the Lyric Theatre.
Stevie, 25, is a mess. His girlfriend left him with a short pink dressing gown and a broken heart. He can’t get Ciara out of his head. So nobody is more surprised than Stevie when an in-depth conversation with 49 year-old Glaswegian widow Martha at a coffee shop, leads to the pair ending up in bed together and – perhaps – a chance at love…?
There’s only one problem, Stevie’s family. His ultra-conservative mother and fanatical Ulster-scots speaking sister would be seen dead before they let their Stevie end up with ‘someone like that’.
Buddhism, fish suppers, and sectarianism …Can’t Forget About You is a play about two people re-imagining their future and getting over the past. Oh, and super-hero themed fantasy role-play.
Can’t Forget About You is the first play written for the Lyric by former Playwright-in-Residence David Ireland, one of Northern Ireland’s hottest young writing talents. David is currently under commission to the National Theatre of Scotland, Tinderbox and the Abbey Theatre and is also adapting his play What the Animals Say into a television series for the BBC.
