Rigoletto

Award-winning director Matthew Richardson (The Devil Inside 2016) and Olivier Award-winning designer Jon Morrell revive their powerful production of Verdi’s masterpiece.

Set in a dark and dangerous underworld where cruelty and inhumanity are rife – and women are objects merely to be played with and discarded – it tells the tragic tale of seduction, revenge and a father’s suffocating love for his only daughter with a clarity that is completely compelling and utterly heart-breaking.

From the aching naivety of Gilda’s first love to the dissolute revelry of ‘La donna e mobile’, Verdi’s score is packed with passion, colour and some of the best-loved music in opera. Internationally-acclaimed baritone Aris Argiris heads up a cast of exciting talent including Lina Johnson, much-praised for her Gilda in Trieste in 2016; award-wining British tenor Adam Smith; David Shipley, a recent graduate of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme; and Scottish Opera Emerging Artists Alexey Gusev and Lucy Anderson. British conductor Rumon Gamba conducts.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
