Performance Of Graceland
Acclaimed on release as an instant classic, Paul Simon’s 1986 LP Graceland, recorded in South Africa with then-unknown local singers Ladysmith Black Mambazo, was a landmark catalyst in the popularisation of so-called world music, a term first coined the following year.
Celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary, Edinburgh indie/roots quartet Bwani Junction – whose lead guitarist Dan Muir’s African-style licks reflect formative lessons from the Bhundu Boys’ Rise Kagona – present their own lovingly-adapted versions of those seminal songs, premièred at a jam-packed hometown gig in 2015.
