Byres Road Big Band

People say never look back but on this occasion it feels worthwhile.

Remember the days when Big Band Sounds blasted from the dance halls of Glasgow? Remember the second coming of the Big Bands when every weekend those distinguishing sounds would emanate from many of the larger city centre lounges? For many people this music was the soundtrack of their lives but no more, what happened?

Where have all the big bands gone?

What has been discovered is that the musicians are still there but in these difficult times venues seem unwilling to take a risk that there is still an audience who will support them.

There is a whole new audience ready to hitch on to the big band sound so one of the most respected big bands in the west of Scotland have been sought out. The Byres Road Big Band and asked them to partner The Ferry in a series of dates through the summer.

The band is formed from some of the finest musicians available in Scotland and the music pad runs from Basie and Ellington via Mancini and Mingus to Mintzer and beyond.
