Lake Of Stars Project Launch Party: Auntie Flo + Bwani Junction + Rise Kagona + John Lwanda
The Lake of Stars Project will celebrate its 10 Year Anniversary by hosting a brand new city-based festival and arts conference in Lilongwe, Malawi from 27 to 28 September 2013.
City of Stars is a two-day, multi-venue arts festival and conference showcasing the best in emerging and acclaimed talent from Malawi and beyond. Featuring an eclectic programme of live music, film, theatre, literature, exhibitions and speakers, it will promote Malawian culture and creativity as well as attracting international artists and arts practitioners.
On Thursday 30 May the City of Stars flavour will come to Glasgow at a special free launch event celebrating Malawian and Scottish talent.
An acclaimed ‘three deck wizard’, Brian D’Souza, a.k.a. Auntie Flo, has been mixing everything from classic detroit and chicago sounds to forward-thinking afro-house and world music for years in fantastic dj sets. Auntie Flo has gone from strength to strength, recently winning a residency at Plastic People in London, appearing at various European festivals, as well achieving continual praise for his ‘Highlife’ night. In 2013 Auntie Flo was a nominee for the Scottish Album Of The Year award.

Rise Kagona is a guitar hero to many on two continents! The BBC's Andy Kershaw cites him as having changed his life, and John Peel famously interviewed the band from their kitchen. Rise is possibly the only living guitarist attributed with starting a whole new genre 'Harare Jit'.
