The Cause Of Thunder

David returns to the Town Hall for the 3rd time in 5 years to preview his new solo show before embarking on a major tour.

Rutherglen Town Hall is proud to host what we are sure will be another sell-out performance and ensuring that the best of theatre continues to visit the area.

A funny thing happened on the way to the pub… Bob Cunningham thought he saw a man ascend into the sky.

It’s two years after the referendum, and Bob Cunningham has stuff on his mind: Whether or not to take early retirement. To make matters worse he discovers that Ethel, his ex, who he hasn’t seen in 20 years, will be coming later tonight. Politics, of course, and what to do about the No vote, Corbyn… And that weird thing about rising into the heavens.

It puts him in storytelling mood. Bob’s a raconteur. He tells 3 more stories about ascensions, all the while trying to decide what to do about Ethel, and whether his life’s work is done. Is he finished?

In his final speech – the story of an entire country ripping itself from the earth and rising up – he comes to terms with his, and his country’s, past, and future.

A solo play performed by David Hayman, written by Chris Dolan, directed by David Hayman Jnr.

Resurrection is a sequel to The Pitiless Storm performed at the Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh Fringe 2014, as part of a 45-date sell-out Scottish tour.
