In the crazy world of guitar heroes, there are those who let their instrument do all the talking. In his career Mike Stern has moved comfortably between jazz-informed rock, fierce fusion and straight ahead jazz. He is a jazz chameleon, associated with such legends as Jaco Pastorius, Billy Cobham and Miles Davis, but he also maintains his own distinct voice.
No stranger to the SNJO, he memorably contributed to the band’s most recent CD, American Adventure. In this programme they join together to tear down walls and confound definitions of contemporary big band music.
