Die Fledermaus
Johann Strauss’ “The Bat” is a joyous romp of popular melodies, dances, wit and farcical twists and turns. Based on a late 19th century French vaudeville, it is a popular and well-known opera. However, if you dig a little deeper, you reveal some rather more unsettling themes: marital infidelity, deception, and a society on the brink.
