Agrippina
After the apparent death of her husband Emperor Claudius, Agrippina seeks to stay in power by persuading her son to claim the throne. She rallies support with false promises and tries to deceive her peers, not paying heed to the impending chaos that results in a tangled web of lies and desires.
Premiered in Venice in 1709, Handel’s Agrippina is a tale of political intrigue, ambition and double-dealing, which is still painfully relevant today.
