Eastern Europe Express - Music For Strings
Join the UK's leading string orchestra for a journey of musical discovery in the intriguing surrounds of Glasgow's Hunterian Museum.
The diverse and inventive musical landscape of Eastern Europe is the rich drawing board for this evening of music for strings, led by guest director and solo violinist Bartosz Woroch (YCAT / Sinfonia Cymru / Lutoslawski Quartet).
From the compelling spiritual sparseness of Gorecki’s Three pieces to two delicate and truly exquisite arrangements of Chopin’s nocturnes for strings; from the vivacious gusto of Bacewicz’ much-lauded concerto to one of Dvo?a?k’s most well-known quintets, scored with double bass for a deep romantic richness… Let the UK’s leading string orchestra take you on a rewarding journey of musical discovery.
The programme:
Go?recki - Three pieces in old style
Chopin - Two Nocturnes [arr. David Matthews]
Bacewicz - Concerto for String Orchestra
Czyz - Canzona di Barocco for String Orchestra
Dvo?a?k - String Quintet in G major, Op. 77 [arr. string orchestra]
