Schubert Winterreise
"You have to be haunted by this cycle to be able to sing it", said the lieder singer Elena Gerhardt of Schubert's greatest song cycle. And indeed, Winterreise (Winter's Journey) makes enormous emotional demands on a singer, its range and power having been compared to that of a full-scale tragic opera. Nicholas Mulroy is well known to Scottish audiences through his appearances as the Evangelist in Bach Passions with the Dunedin Consort. His "Messiah" won a Gramophone Award. Alisdair Hogarth regularly broadcasts on BBC and Classic FM. His work as an accompanist has been a Gramophone Magazine "Editor's Choice". He won an "outstandin" award from International Record Review.
