Jack Lavender: When We Look Outwards In Space We Look Backwards In Time

Jack Lavender (born Canterbury, 1983) makes collages and assemblages, borrowing from his collection of found and mass-produced images and objects. The artist draws from a range of sources including comic books, takeaway menus, lifestyle magazines and manufactured goods and packaging – from fake fruit and plastic dog toys to crisp packets and alcopop labels.

He arranges these instinctively, montaging images and objects around a theme, or purely for their formal connections. For his exhibition at BALTIC, his first in a public institution in the UK, Lavender presents an ambitious installation of new and recent work, including a series of site-specific sculptures which respond to and utilise the height of the space.
