A Jazz violinist of considerable power and musicality, Christian Garrick is active on the international concert circuit and on the London studio session scene. He is a professor of jazz and non-classical violin at three of London’s major music conservatoires.
Chris is also highly regarded for his work with the likes of The Brand New Heavies, Van Morrison and Brian Ferry, as well as appearing on a significant number of film and TV soundtracks. He is also no stranger to the classical concert halls, but it is his Jazz violin for which he is best known.
A fluent and inventive player with a string of awards to his name, his subtle yet driving playing is a testament to a thoughtful but at the same time joyous approach to the music.
It’s a great joy to welcome pianist David Gordon to Fleet Jazz also. David studied mathematics and logic before embarking on a career as jazz pianist, harpsichordist and composer. Regularly commissioned by festivals and fellow musicians to compose, he also tours and records with his own international jazz trio, whilst finding the time to grace concert halls around the world in his capacity as harpsichordist with top orchestras and soloists.
With the wonderful Tom Hooper on drums (Grace Jones, Simple Minds, Aynsley Lister, Jackie Graham, Sir John Dankworth, Brian McFadden...) and Marianne Windham on bass.
"If you know Christian Garrick as an elegant Hot Club de France violinist in the Thirties style of Stephane Grappelli, prepare to be amazed. His new double album, ‘firewire’, with keyboarder Dave Gordon leading an exceptional rhythm section, not only sounds totally 21st century but also swings like a hotel roof in a hurricane." London Evening Standard
“Garrick and Gordon have established a genuine rapport, and this, allied to the immense technical skill on display, ensures that these musical exchanges are consistently full of interest. There’s always something exciting going on.” thejazzmann.com
