The Lakes International Comic Art Festival

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is the only one of its kind in the UK. A celebration of the comic art form is all its diversity – with renowned creators, writers and artists from across the world.

Modelled on European-style festivals, it takes over the whole town of Kendal for a weekend with events, talks, cinema, live draws, exhibitions, a family zone, the marketplace and the chance to see leading comic creators at work.

The festival celebrates the whole spectrum of comic art, inspiring existing comic fans and generating new audiences and creators too. It invests in creators through a commissioning programme and has an emphasis on developing international collaborations.

This year the festival will incorporate four themes…

Superheroes: The best superhero writers and artists draw live and talk about their work and what inspires them.

Manga: Find out more about manga with events, workshops and film screenings or hang out in the Manga café. Includes special guests from Tokyo and Kyoto.

Gaming: Comic artists and writers play games with our imagination; creating parallel worlds, giant robots, flying machines and awesome monsters.

Satire: A pertinent theme for this year, Satire is alive and kicking, giving comics that extra punch and commentating on our society at large. Enjoy a series of live draws, interviews and more from those at the top of their game.

Now in its third year The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (LICAF) features a stellar cast of creative talent including:
