Doves will be performing a one-off gig at Perry Park on Sunday 28th July for Inner City Live: Birmingham.

The legendary Manchester band return for a handful of key dates this summer after a 9-year hiatus, with the Perry Park event – one of Birmingham’s best green spaces and home for the 2022 Commonwealth Games – the only chance to catch them playing in the West Midlands.

Inner City Live can be trusted to put on a memorable event with previous artists featured in the series including the likes of The Stranglers, The Flaming Lips, Primal Scream, Happy Mondays, The Levellers, Orbital and more.

Former members of dance hit makers Sub Sub (best known for their no.3 hit 'Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use), who as Doves became purveyors of indie-rock anthems like 'Pounding' and top ten singles 'There Goes The Fear' and 'Black And White Town'. Their mellow guitar-driven indie sounds with irresistable chord arrangements sometimes give way to playful dance undercurrents. After a lengthy hiatus, the band announced in December 2018 they were back.

Johnny Marr

One of the most celebrated and influential guitarists in the history of contemporary music, the legendary guitarist from The Smiths has been an inspiration for legions of string-pluckers ever since the '80s. He was co-songwriter and guitarist of The Smiths. He has also been a member of Electronic, The The, Modest Mouse and The Cribs, as well as a prolific session musician and now also plays solo shows.

The Twang

The Twang appearing at this event

Birmingham indie-rock five piece The Twang first found national fame when the NME wrote an article of the West Midlands music scene, and were very soon picking up awards, covered by a Radio 1 documentary and smashing the charts. Their success story includes three UK top 40 singles and two top 20 albums, with their debut 'Love It When I Feel Like This' reaching no.3.
