Come and Sing choruses from Handel's Israel in Egypt.

This is a great opportunity for singers who haven't the time to attend regular practice, to enjoy the fun of a rehearsal and final 'performance' sing-through all in one day.

Handel's catalogue of works includes 29 oratorios, 42 operas, and numerous large scale pieces of church music in Latin, German and English. They will present Israel in Egypt for their Spring Concert. The libretto is English, and tells the biblical story of the escape of the Israelites across the Red Sea. This work was premiered in London three years before Messiah.

It was very popular in the revival of Handel's music and the development of choral societies in the 19th century, and the subject of one of the earliest known audio recordings, in 1888.

They last performed the work in 1996, and some of the more long-standing members of the choir remember it as a really good sing, with tremendous choruses. They'll perform with a baroque orchestra in the excellent acoustics of St Andrew's Garrison Church, Aldershot, on 25th March 2017.

As they're using a new venue, they have good facilities and can offer lunch - a choice of ploughmans or soup and a roll as part of the ticket price. Tea and coffee will also be available at the breaks.
