Between Two Worlds - China In The 21st Century
China's importance as an increasingly significant global force is a key phenomenon of our times, but the world's most heavily populated nation has a history of tyranny and repression, poverty, unfair business practice and corruption and now faces environmental degradation and a demographic time bomb.
The panel discusses what is emerging out of these factors in terms of youth culture, new developments in Chinese politics, the role of free speech and the interaction of progress and tradition in the role of women both in the family and society.
Jonathan Fenby is a former Editor of the Observer and of the South China Morning Post. He is one of the UK’s foremost experts on China.
Aowen Jin is a Chinese-born, British artist and social commentator. Her artworks have been collected by the Queen and the Horniman Museum.
Jemimah Steinfeld has worked for the Global Times, CNN, Time Out and the Huffington Post on issues relating to China, feminism and dating. She currently works at London's Asia House.
