For our first concert of 2016, we welcome two soloists who are both descendants of two famous musicians: Paul Barritt and Normal Del Mar. Francesca and Morwenna are a great team and we look forward to their rendering of the much-loved Brahms Double. The Cherubini overture may seem unfamiliar but the FSO recently played some short excerpts from ‘Medea’ as Carl Davis used them in his score for the film ‘The General’, which was performed in Farnham in 2012. This time we shall play the original version. The concert concludes with one of Beethoven's best known works: the 'Eroica' symphony, which was inspired by Napoleon but whose name was famously erased from the front page when the composer became disillusioned with his imperialist ambitions. We look forward to experiencing the profound emotional depth of this great work.
