O’casey’s tumultous play assault on the brutalising impact of war.
When a war injury leaves young Irishman Harry Heegan wheelchair-bound and paralysed, he returns to his old football club for a party in his honour. Harry’s previous victory is bittersweet – awarded the Silver Tassie for a game he can no longer play. Harry’s return from the trenches to a ‘normal’ life no longer seems like much of a life at all… Sean O’Casey’s anti-war play from 1928 uses wit and satirical humour to express a powerful message.
