In A Pickle: Oily Cart, The Royal Shakespeare Company
Oily Cart, the leading creators of theatre for the very young, presents this interactive, multi-sensory wonderland experience. This co-production with the Royal Shakespeare Company was first performed as part of the World Shakespeare Festival 2012. The show is an entrancing tale combining smells, textures, enchanting live music and beautiful costumes. For the very first time, toddlers are catapulted into the colourful world of Shakespeare's imagination and the music of his language.
The adventure begins in the woolly pastures of the shepherdess and her flock of little sheep. She is having a party to celebrate the sheep shearing. When she discovers a lost baby, the audience is called on to help solve the clues about where the baby comes from. Together they travel over the salty sea to the sad court where a happy ending is found.
Suitable for ages 2-5 years.
Since 1981 Oily Cart has been taking its unique blend of theatre to children and young people in schools and venues across the UK.
Challenging accepted definitions of theatre and audience, they create innovative, multi-sensory and highly interactive productions for the very young and for young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
All sorts of shows for all sorts of children!
'Quite simply, Oily Cart makes art for small children: a beguiling aesthetic experience, scaled to fit their curious world and perfectly designed to make them happy' (Caroline McGinn, theatre critic).

The aim of the RSC is to keep modern audiences in touch with Shakespeare as our contemporary. That means that as well as the work of Shakespeare and his contemporaries, our repertoire includes classic plays by international dramatists and work by living writers.
