Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra 01

A programme of

Grieg Peer Gynt Suites No 1 and No 2
Rachmaninov Symphony No 2

Energetic, commanding, sometimes controversial: Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko has created glittering, powerful performances since taking the reins as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra’s Chief Conductor in 2013.

He naturally excels in the mighty music of his homeland, and for many, Rachmaninov’s Second is the epitome of the Romantic Russian symphony – intense, achingly melodic and hugely emotional.

Beforehand, in the first of the Orchestra’s two Festival concerts, Petrenko recounts vivid stories from Nordic folklore with the trolls, fjords and unforgettable sunrises of Grieg’s evocative Peer Gynt Suites.
