New Music Discussion - As Part Of Coma Celebration Weekend

As part of Contemporary Music for All's celebration weekend, the Scottish Music Centre will host an open discussion for composers, promoters, performers and music leaders, which will address how we could work together to ensure that contemporary music continues to be commissioned, performed and integrated into music-making at every level.

Guest speakers, Alasdair Nicolson (composer and Artistic Director of St Magnus International Festival) and Jennifer Martin (composer and Chief Executive of the Hebrides Ensemble), will lead a discussion while sharing their experience of working with new music, as composers, educators, commissioners and programmers.

The discussion will look to explore how we can increase access to the array of new music created in Scotland and ensure there is a mutual awareness of performance and commissioning opportunities, for amateur and professional musicians alike. We will also present CoMA's Open Scores project, which is a nationwide initiative celebrating and promoting CoMA's vast library of new music commissioned especially for amateur ensembles.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to discuss their own perspective on how the musical landscape is creating challenges for new music practitioners and how these issues could be addressed.

This one-off event is the chance to voice your opinions in a UK-wide context. Come along and get your voice heard!

This event will compliment Hebrides Ensemble's Come and Play Contemporary Music weekend for instrumental and vocal performers of all ages and stages. A final performance will be held immediately after this seminar showcasing music by Stephen Montague, Jonathan Harvey, Diana Burrell and a host of others.

Places are still available for participants and you can visit www.hebridesensemble.com for all the details. Tickets for the concert will be available on the door.
