Sandwood
Duncan Chisholm returns to The Queen's Hall to present music from his much-anticipated new album, Sandwood.
Inspired by the bay, which rightfully lays claim to hold the finest yet least accessible beach in Scotland, Sandwood is situated within the far reaches of the north-west coast of Sutherland. It is a natural masterpiece, a true paradise that sits within a basin of peatlands waiting to be discovered by those willing to trek wild.
Two years of imagining, writing and production have resulted in Duncan capturing this wild place musically and making it the focus of his latest album of fiddle music.
This concert will present Duncan's live interpretation of what is believed to be one of the earliest inhabited areas of what came to be known as Scotland. Sandwood, a wild place, and a place where people negotiate their existence with nature. A place of incredible light and colour that is subject to the eternal force of the Atlantic Ocean.
Duncan's assembly of musical masterminds, now well known as The Gathering, bring cinematic sound and colour to this new music. These musicians individually represent some of the finest talents on the traditional and classical music scene and collectively, with Duncan, present the new sound of traditional Scotland.
