Ragged University: Syndicalism 'plus' Chakras

Come along for the first Ragged University of the Edinburgh year. Put your feet up, break bread, and enjoy learning as we share our company.

These are free public lectures (no booking required).

Syndicalism: An International and Historical Perspective by Derek Keenan

What does syndicalism mean to us? It may mean the million workers in the Spanish CNT fighting with a new world in their hearts during the Spanish Civil War. It may mean the legendary Industrial Workers of the World organising the One Big Union across craft and trade, race and gender lines. It may mean a vast movement of workers across Latin America during the first half of the 20th Century. It may mean Starbucks baristas fighting today to build unions in coffee houses in New York and Santiago. But it very possibly means none of these things. Derek explores the history and meaning of Syndicalism in this talk

There will be a break in between where we can enjoy a bite to eat and a chance to socialise around learning. Everyone is warmly invited to bring an item of food to share, and help take away what is left so that nothing goes to waste.

The Meanings of the Chakras & How They Affect Your Health by Richard Barriball

Whether you’re a clinical professional, a complementary therapist or if you suffer a long term condition, this will be interesting to you. A talk of wonder and intrigue as Richard shares the theories of how and why we manifest illness and what we can do about it with our thoughts and feelings.
