Writing The North: Poetry And Music From Orkney And Shetland

An evening celebrating the poetry and music of Shetland and Orkney. This event follows a project by the same name, designed to bring together literary historians, museum professionals, schools and creative writers of Orkney and Shetland.

The evening will present one activity of the project; a series of dialogues between academics and poets considering nineteenth century works of the islands, resulting in their re-imagining in new works. At this event we will hear the poets talk about the dialogues and the new works which emerged from this. The evening will be interwoven with music from Inge Thomson, sister of Fair Isle poet and musician Lise Sinclair who was originally part of the project, and whom we celebrate at this event.

Ticket price includes a free copy of the project's book Archipelagos and a glass of wine to celebrate after the performance.
