Ambrose Parry’s The Way of All Flesh and The Art of Dying are historical crime novels set in Victorian Edinburgh. They use the city’s vibrant scientific and medical past, including illustrious figures such as Dr James Young Simpson, to create the world they inhabit.

Ambrose Parry is a pseudonym for a collaboration between Chris Brookmyre and Marisa Haetzman. Chris Brookmyre is an international bestselling and multi-award-winning author and Dr Marisa Haetzman is a consultant anaesthetist of twenty years’ experience, whose research for her Master’s degree in the History of Medicine revealed the material upon which their novels are based.

At this event, Chris and Marisa will discuss their work, their influences, and the medical stories from Edinburgh's past which have inspired them the most.
