The Black Pirate (1926) With Live Musical Accompaniment
A classic tale of adventure on the high seas. An aristocrat joins a pirate crew in order to avenge the death of his father and, along the way, rescues a princess. This is the first major feature film to be made entirely in Technicolor. Douglas Fairbanks Sr.’s astonishing acrobatics remain dazzling today, and includes his most famous and widely copied stunt, riding down a sail on the edge of a knife!
The film will be accompanied by The Jane Gardner Trio, featuring Jane Gardner (composer, piano), Roddy Long (violin) and Hazel Morrison (percussion). The score was commissioned for, and originally performed at, the Kelvingrove Bandstand and Amphitheatre as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme.
