Is A Nomadic Lifestyle Incompatible With The 21st Century?

Chair: Professor Colin Clark (University of the West of Scotland)

Panelists:
Fiona Watson (Survival International)
Members of the travelling community

For centuries, nomadic peoples have existed across the world - communities who move from one place to another, exploiting scarce resources and offering services to the settled population. But today, is this really necessary?

Is there space for the ‘wandering nomad’ in today’s world or is this a romantic image from the past?

Should communities be allowed to continue a mobile lifestyle, or should they all just settle down, be educated, pay taxes and contribute to society like everyone else?
