Edinburgh Festival Fringe: Luminous Tales: Ripstop Theatre
Shadow puppetry, lanterns, storytelling, playful slide projections... and an old lady who won't go to bed.
This animated mix of shadow play and storytelling about a little old lady, a girl and some boxing hares takes you on a gentle journey through the darkness of night, over the light of the moon and back in time for bed.
The little old lady hates the night so much she won't go to bed. She dreams and schemes of getting rid of it and tries to imagine times past when there was no light at all until the crow stole some.
Drawing on a traditional Inuit folk tale Luminous Tales also reflects modern fables and superstitions about the night.
Zannie Fraser has worked with a wide range of puppet companies such as Norwich Puppet Theatre, Little Angel Theatre and Theatre Rites.
Since 1998 she has specialised in making shadow theatre productions for family audiences with her own company, Ripstop Theatre. She aims to produce theatre that is inspiring and visually stimulating showing the possibilities of fun and play to be had with shadows.
