Revered for its immaculate, hugely expressive performances blending thoughtfulness with enthusiastic energy, the Nash Ensemble is one of Britain’s most celebrated chamber groups, its players respected soloists in their own rights as well as consummate chamber musicians.

The Ensemble opens the Festival’s Queen’s Hall recitals with two contrasting chamber masterpieces. Schubert’s gloriously tuneful Octet, one of the chamber repertoire’s most cherished works, is by turns introspective and boisterous, while Vaughan Williams’s rarely heard early Piano Quintet combines a Brahms-influenced grandeur with an effortless melodiousness all the composer’s own.
