Round & Round The Garden

Following acclaim for their previous productions at Hever – The Time of My Life (2017), The 39 Steps(2018) First Knight Theatre returns in 2019 with an Ayckbourn classic, the hilarious and much-loved Round and Round the Garden. First performed in 1973 as the final play in the award-winning Norman Conquests trilogy, the setting is a rambling country garden aptly positioned centre stage within the wonderful Hever grounds. ‘A garden within a garden’.

The action takes place over the course of a weekend when the self-absorbed, lecherous Norman is desperately intent on making all the women in his life happy, simultaneously attempting to seduce his sister-in-law Annie, charm his brother’s wife Sarah and still keep his own wife, Ruth happy whilst the hapless neighbour Tom is merely intent on coaxing a cat out of a tree. Oblivious to the repercussions of his actions, Norman leaves a trail of havoc, misunderstandings and comedy consequences culminating in an orgiastic frenzy on the lawn. At times wildly comic, and at times poignant Round and Round the Garden brilliantly portrays the complicated relationships that exist in most families.
