Darren Hayman (ex-Hefner)

This event has been and gone.

Venue is a mix of seats and standing.

Darren Hayman used to be in Hefner and did 12 sessions for John Peel. Though he hardly ever talks about it. Since that band he has released 20 album about increasingly nuanced subjects relating to the British landscape. He wrote a trilogy of records set in Essex that dealt with New Towns, Dogging and the East Anglian Witch Trials.

He wrote an album about Lidos and recently made three albums about Thankful Villages (55 Villages where every soldier returned home alive after the First World War). He is currently making albums about Seaside Piers and the telegraph line, a line of hills that sent signals down them from the admiralty to Deal.

On stage he think he's a bit funny.

The former frontman of celebrated late '90s indie heroes Hefner, Darren now has a solo career, which includes songs he wrote in a caravan. His songs cover a range of subjects such as crumbling crafts, dog charities, retiring schoolteachers and air hostesses plummeting to their death.
