Henry IV, Part II
Shakespeare's comic, cynical, bawdy presentation of an England in turmoil is performed by the Derby Shakespeare Theatre Company, directed by David Dunford.
Henry overthrew his less efficient, but more charismatic, cousin, Richard, on a wave of popular support; now almost everyone has turned against him. Ill and aged before his time, he must deal with a series of rebellions and his concern that his apparently irresponsible son, Prince Hal, will undo everything he has achieved. Meanwhile, Sir John Falstaff, a fat, drunken, womaniser, yet far warmer and more appealing than the politicians who are replacing him, has to face the fact that time is running out for him and his friends.
