And Now We Call Him Santa Claus
A musical double-bill!
Derby Cathedral Choir presents a musical banquet to celebrate the Church’s Feast of St Nicholas. Come and find out more about the real Santa Claus. Music will include Haydn’s St Nicholas Mass, written to celebrate the nameday of Haydn’s employer, Prince Nicolaus Esterhazy, on 6th December 1772.
Since St Nicholas is an Advent Saint, there will also be Baroque music to prepare for the Festive Season, including Bach’s famous Advent Cantata, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140, and a sprinkling of Christmas sparkle thrown in
