Coppelia
English Youth Ballet's production is a delight. The ballet combines the romance between Swanilda and Franz and Swanilda's jealousy of the doll Coppelia, with the story of the mechanical doll maker Dr Coppelius who creates a spell and is convinced that he has brought his favourite doll to life. Franz falls in love with Coppelia whom he thinks is alive, but eventually recognises that she is just a doll.
Swanilda disguises herself as the doll and plays a joke on them both. With sparklingly original choreography, colourful costumes and boasting 100 talented young local dancers in the cast, this brilliant production comes to the Darlington Hippodrome. Coppelia, a worldwide favourite, promises to be a magical evening of ballet.
