Nanki-Poo, son of the Mikado, has fled to escape an arranged marriage with an elderly member of his father’s court. Disguised as a musician, he falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is betrothed to her guardian Ko-Ko.

A year later, on learning that Ko-Ko has been condemned to death for flirting, he hurries back to claim her only to discover that if he marries her she will have to be buried alive!
