Chavinda, She Rise
ZamRay Theatre is committed to New Writing: on this occasion, a new play by playwright/screenwriter David Riaz Zaman.
ZamRay is committed to introducing fresh, young, highly skilled and extremely talented new 'voices' in respect of the actors; who bring a vigour, vibrancy and 'hunger' to the process and production(s).
Chavinda, She Rise has its UK premiere at Matthews Yard Studio. Two performances: Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August 2015, at 8.00 p.m.
It is a searing contemporary drama, full of invective, based on a true story.
Focusing on a final, crucial confrontation between two women, the play explores Identity, Insurgency, Defiance, Deceit, wrapped up in a subversive, incendiary conflict where Shamba Kahoon interrogates Raslyn Divine; or is it the other way round?
Shamba believes Raslyn to be the infamous and dangerous ‘Akinda’ (aka Chavinda’) and as the women confront the inevitability of violence, their true selves are revealed - as is a third character - culminating in a reversal of fortune, and a transcendent twist of fate.
