Alex Cumming & Nicola Beazley

Having had the pleasure of their company as featured artists on an Open Night way back in 2014, we’ve finally managed to get them as guest artists for a concert, not an easy job now that Alex is living in the States. And if you missed them first time round, you should know that Alex and Nicola are an exciting accordion and fiddle duo who perform songs and tunes from around England.

Alex first started on the accordion when he was just six years old, and has carried that through into his degree in Folk and Traditional Music, now with an expertise in singing, and calling for ceilidh dancing as well. He also sings with the vocal quartet The Teacups, plays with the ceilidh band Dyer:Cummings, and has appeared on the BBC series The Edwardian Farm.

Nicola came later to her instrument, not starting until she was seven, and, like Alex, graduated from Newcastle University with the same degree. She has toured Europe with her 6-piece band Ceol Tire, and also plays with the instrumental trio Speldosa.

With Alex’s rhythmic accordion style and strong voice, and Nicolas’ stunning and gutsy fiddle-playing, they are much in demand at the top folk clubs and festivals. The chance shouldn’t be missed to hear them.
