The Importance Of Being Earnest
The Importance of Being Earnest (4 act version) by Oscar Wilde. Four-act version reconstructed by Vyvyan Holland.
Full of witty dialogue, this famous piece of English theatre features some equally famous characters including the formidable Lady Bracknell.
The plot centres on Jack Worthing, who is “Ernest” in town, and who seeks the hand of the beautiful Gwendolen. She returns his love, but chiefly because his name is “Ernest”. In the country, we meet Jack’s ward, the innocent Cecily who, despite the fact that she has never met him, has romantic feelings for Jack’s ne’r do well brother “Ernest”, who is merely an invention of Jack’s in order to enable him to make his frequent trips to London.
And so we have two women who are both in love with a fictitious 'Ernest', fortunately, through a series of highly improbable coincidences, all ends happily and we are all shown the real 'Importance of Being Ernest'!
This amateur production of 'Importance of Being Earnest, The (Original 4 Act Version)' is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Ltd.
