A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
Adapted by Bryony Lavery.
Music and Lyrics by Jason Carr.
Directed by Dale Rooks and Jake Smith.

Miser Ebenezer Scrooge lives for money; the cold hard currency of gold, and cares not for how it is obtained or how it has crushed his own human spirit.

People are worthless; family is a nuisance, employees ungrateful and all no more so than at Christmas when the insanity of love and forgiveness is allowed to run amok. Except, this Christmas Eve is going to be different.

After years of forging the chains in life that he will carry for eternity, Scrooge is visited by three spirits sent to redeem his soul by offering him a vision of what was, what is and what shall be. Will he repent in time and finally understand the true meaning of Christmas?

Dickens’s tale of one man’s search for redemption is brought to life by the Chichester Festival Youth Theatre in this specially written version by award-winning playwright Bryony Lavery with music and lyrics by Jason Carr, which charmed audiences in our 2008 production.

Directed by Dale Rooks whose previous credits include the highly acclaimed Running Wild (Festival 2015), and The Hundred and One Dalmatians (Winter 2014).
