‘Her voice is full and flowing with deep resonances and dark harmonies, probing, searching, stretching for fresh sounds, its new jazz throughout, and a new look at jazz singing that is all her own, the compositions are strong and very personal, as indeed is her voice throughout.’ ****Jazz Journal, August 2017
‘Some of her finest original recordings over the last 15 years, she packs a real dramatic heft .Beatific.’ Jazzwise, July 2017
‘Sue McCreeth is highly unusual in two ways. First, she takes as her starting point not a few words or a snatch of melody, but a harmonic idea. Second, she alters her singing voice quite radically to suit the character of individual songs. Impressive.’ ****The Observer, June 2017
‘Highly original songwriting and wildly contrasting styles.’ **** The Guardian, June 2017
‘Sue McCreeth comes as a breath of fresh air. Refreshing it is to hear [her] colourful chromatic harmony mixed with modal groove. An unaffected pursuit of honest expression through modern harmony is what will particularly appeal.’ Jazz Journal, June 2017
‘Your work is logical and effective; this seems to come to you naturally.’ Gary Burton, 2016
During the course of 2017, with the release of her sixth studio CD, Look Back and Love, Sue McCreeth has consolidated her reputation as one of the most original and convincing jazz singer-songwriters in the world. Sue holds a B.A. Hons in Music (majoring in Composition), from University of Sussex, and has studied improvisation and composition with Berklee College of Music, USA, her work garnering ‘A’ grades across the board, an endorsement and a fruitful collaboration with one of her tutors. Her voice training is in the classical tradition and for many years she has consulted with the great voice teacher Joy Mammen (Royal Academy of Music, London). Having been twice shortlisted in the International Songwriting Competition, winning multiple accolades for her work, and her songwriting being used as teaching materials at Berklee, she is one of the most well regarded vocalists of her generation. This artist never fails to impress, her voice managing her self-penned formidable lines with grace and passion.
